The Experience of an American Soldier in the Vietnam War
The Soldiers experience in the Vietnam war of an average male of 19 to 26 years of age was a tough, long, dangerous and life changing experience. Most of the men had never been out of the US before and it was a very big life changing experience for them by itself . Around 25,000 men out of 500,000 men in Vietnam practically lived on the field all the time. They had small and large camps. During the war, the soldiers had to deal with the scorching heat while fighting in their army clothing. It was more like a humid and wet heat, not the desert heat. Living on the field changed many soldiers personality’s and made them think differently after. The soldiers lost many weight during the Vietnam war and heavy set GI's were not common at all during the time. Soldiers faced a time they felt the need to have the animal instinct of survival in each of the men. All they did was eat, sleep and fight for their lives. They had no modernized bathrooms or that flushed. They used outhouses. They got sent without an education. If they did not have a good education or will not have one in the future, would get drafted regardless.
